The Ontario SPCA Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre appreciates all donations to help the Centre meet the needs of the nearly 1,500 animals that come through its doors each year.
To donate
Each year approximately 1,500 injured, sick and orphaned animals are admitted to the Ontario SPCA Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Midland in need of our help. Few people realize that our wildlife centre relies primarily on donations to fund its operations.
Each animal that arrives at our wildlife centre receives a thorough assessment to determine the best course of care and treatment that will provide the greatest opportunity for the animal to be rehabilitated and released back into their natural habitat. With the diversity of species that arrive at our centre (over 100 different species each year), we must be ready to cope with the multitude of needs that are unique to each species. Food, specialized formulas, medical treatment and caging can be extremely costly, but are necessary components to a successful rehabilitation program.
Here are some examples of the cost of caring for wildlife for one week (although animals are often in our care for a period of a few days to several months):
$25 provides essential care for songbirds or small mammals such as eastern gray squirrels and cottontail rabbits for one week;
$50 will help us care for larger mammals such as porcupines, red foxes, raccoons and striped skunks for one week; and
$75 feeds and provides medical care for a bird of prey such as a red-tailed hawk or a great-horned owl for one week.
