Celebrate Earth Day this year, with these five ways get involved with your pet. Tell us what you think in the comments below! We always love to hear from you.
Earth Day with your pets
Go for a long walk. On Earth Day, spend time with your furry friend outdoors! Take a lesson from your dog and take time to sniff, roll, and run around in the beautiful nature around you.
- Don’t waste, donate! We all have pet products that our pets outgrew, didn’t like, or don’t use. Instead of throwing out your gently used pet products, why not donate to your local shelter? Shelters often need items such as bedding, leashes, litter boxes, towels, and toys. Here is a list of Ontario SPCA Communities where items may be dropped off.
- Recycled dog toys. Have old or mismatched socks lying around, or shirts that don’t fit anymore? Make dog toys out of them! Check out this video to see a how-to for making a great rope toy out of old shirts: DIY Dog toys: Rope toy & treat dispenser!
- Homemade pet food. Making your own pet food can be a great way to help the environment! Listen to this podcast for tips and tricks to DIY pet food: DIY Homemade food for pets.
- Adopt from your local shelter! If you’re looking to expand your family with a new pet, adopt from a local shelter. You’ll be giving a grateful pet a second chance and doing your part to make sure shelter resources can help more pets in need!
