Charges laid on Welland residents
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -Welland, ON (February 4, 2016) - In the evening of January 25, 2016 the Welland and District SPCA received information from a member of the public that they had found a German Shepherd running loose in the City of Welland. The dog had a very poor body condition, and was missing fur to over 75 per cent of its body. The German Shepherd was brought to the Welland SPCA animal centre where a scan with a microchip scanner revealed who the owner was. Furthermore on the morning of January 26, 2016 the owner called the Welland SPCA indicating that they were missing their dog.
A male and female Welland resident have each been charged with the following:
1) Being the owner did permit an animal to be in distress;
2) Being the owner did fail to provide care necessary for general welfare;
3) Being the owner did fail to provide medical attention.
The owners are set to appear in Provincial Court in Welland, ON, on March 29, 2016 at 9 AM.
The dog remains in the care of the Welland and District SPCA where it continues to be provided with the ongoing veterinary care it requires.
