Renfrew, ON (June 29, 2016) – On June 20, 2016, Amanda Jennings of Renfrew, ON. was found guilty of six counts of animal cruelty under the Ontario SPCA Act and received a lifetime ban on owning animals.

In October 2015, the Ontario SPCA launched an investigation after receiving information that animals in Jennings’ care were in distress.  Two search warrants were executed at Jennings’ residence, and four dogs were removed from her care under certificate of a veterinarian.

The court heard evidence that the animals were underweight, one was in need of immediate medical care, and all were subject to unacceptable conditions.

Jennings was found guilty of:
• Causing four dogs to be in distress
• Failing to provide adequate and appropriate medical attention
• Failing to provide suitable and adequate food and water
• Failing to provide sanitary conditions
• Failing to provide care necessary for its general welfare
• Failing to provide adequate ventilation

Jennings was ordered to pay fines of $6,000 plus costs, and banned from owning animals for the remainder of her life. She must submit to inspections from the Ontario SPCA to ensure that she is not in possession of, caring for, or living with animals.
“There is no excuse when it comes to failing to care for your animals,” says Steve Toy, Senior Inspector, Ontario SPCA. “We are pleased to see the judicial system take animal welfare so seriously in this sentencing.”
