Public urged to call 310-SPCA with tips about dead dog found in Northwood area

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Thunder Bay, ON (September 26, 2016) – The Thunder Bay & District Humane Society and the Ontario SPCA are urging members of the public to come forward with information about a dog that was found dead in Northwood near the Northwood Playfield.

On September 18, 2016, the Thunder Bay Animal Services received a call from a resident about a dog found dead in a wooded area. The resident stated that they had heard a dog screaming on the evening of September 16, 2016, and found the animal’s body the following day.

The dog is a female, Spaniel-mix type breed and was wearing a turquoise collar. The dog did not have a tag or microchip and her owner is unknown. A necropsy was performed on the dog by a veterinarian who determined that the cause of death was a result of foul play.

“If you have any information about the death of this poor dog, or if you know who she belonged to, please come forward,” says Lynn Michaud, Senior Inspector, Ontario SPCA. “Foul play resulted in this dog’s death and we would like to see justice brought forth for her.”

Call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 310-SPCA (7722) with any information that could assist in this investigation. If you see an animal in distress, call 310-SPCA immediately.  All calls remain anonymous.
