Brantford residents charged with animal cruelty after bodies of five animals discovered

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Brantford, ON (November 18, 2016) – A 69-year-old woman and 35-year-old man from Brantford have been charged with animal cruelty under the Ontario SPCA Act after the bodies of five animals were discovered.

The Brant County SPCA executed a warrant in May 2016 after receiving a call from a member of the public who reported seeing a dead dog inside a Brantford residence. Investigators discovered the bodies of two dogs, two cats and a turtle. A necropsy determined the animals died of starvation and dehydration.

The accused have each been charged with four counts of causing distress and four counts of failing to provide adequate food and water. They are due to appear in the Provincial Offences Court in Brantford on January 24, 2017.
