Perth County man charged five counts under the Ontario SPCA Act, after the removal of 73 dogs

LUCKNOW, ON (August 2, 2012) – On July 26, 2012, a Perth County man received five charges under the Ontario SPCA Act. These charges stem from an investigation that started earlier this year, where the Ontario SPCA executed 16 warrants in one morning.

Ontario SPCA Inspectorate attended the location after receiving a call from a concerned person that animals were living in poor conditions. An Ontario SPCA warrant was executed and, after orders were not complied with, a veterinarian signed a certificate of removal for 73 animals from the Huron County property.

The Perth county man has been charged with five counts under the Ontario SPCA Act.

• 1 count for failing to comply with an order.
• 1 count for permitting distress.
• 1 count for failing to provide animals with necessary care.
• 1 count for failing to provide animals with appropriate medical attention.
• 1count for failing to provide animals with adequate protection from elements.

The animals were later surrendered to the Ontario SPCA and have now been successfully re-homed across the province.

“This is an unfortunate situation that was preventable." said Senior Inspector Darren Grandel. "The Ontario SPCA is always available to discuss options should you need assistance in caring for your animals,”

The Ontario SPCA reminds pet owners that if you have concerns for the welfare of your animal to contact your local Ontario SPCA or Humane Society to discuss what services are available.
