Siberian husky eats sock and undergoes expensive surgery. Ontario SPCA seeks public assistance.
FOR IMMIDIATE RELEASE - NEWMARKET, ON (October 25, 2012) – The Ontario SPCA Provincial Education and Animal Centre is urgently appealing to the public to help recover the costs of an emergency surgery for Xena, a two year old Siberian husky. Xena ingested a sock which became lodged in her stomach and small intestine, requiring immediate surgery to save her life.
Xena was brought to the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education and Animal Centre (PEAC) by her owner, after the dog had ingested the sock. The owner could not afford to help the Husky and all other options to save Xena had failed. Although the owner was very upset about surrendering Xena, she realized that surrendering the dog to the Ontario SPCA would be the best thing for her.
The Ontario SPCA is pleased to share that Xena’s surgery was successful and the young dog is recovering well. Once fully recovered, Xena will be placed up for adoption at the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education and Animal Centre, located in Newmarket off Woodbine Avenue.
Unfortunately this emergency care was quite expensive and totaled $3,384.69.
The Ontario SPCA is a non for profit organization. Ninety Percent of its funding comes from donations and animal welfare services. The compassion of the public enables us to provide urgently needed care and shelter for the thousands of innocent animals that suffer from injury, abuse or neglect each year in this province.
“Surrendering an animal that requires medical attention is never an easy decision,” says Senior Inspector Toy. “If after exhausting all other options, we welcome you to contact us and we can discuss how we might be able to assist. Like in Xena’s case, it might be the only solution to getting the animal the help it needs.”
The Ontario SPCA PEAC is seeking the public’s support in recovering the cost of Xena’s surgery.
