Rescued Italian Greyhounds receive worldwide support

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - NEWMARKET, ON (May 23, 2013) – The Ontario SPCA is excited to report worldwide support of the large number of Italian Greyhounds currently in the Society’s care.

Since October 2012, the Ontario SPCA has been caring for and rehabilitating a large number of Italian Greyhounds after they were removed as part of an investigation, having been found living in deplorable conditions. The dogs were recently surrendered to the Ontario SPC A and placed up for adoption.  The case is still before the courts.

With the Ontario SPCA Friends For Life! walk-a-thon™ is only a few days away, the Society has included some of these dogs as participants for the walk, to help generate support and encourage their adoption.  The walk pages supporting these dogs have been a huge success! An Italian Greyhound named “Tiny Tim” has raised $2,700 in less than one week, on his page alone. The Italian Greyhound “Scratchy’” has raised $1,480 on his page.

The Ontario SPCA is more than pleased to see that support of these pages has come from all over the world. Breeders, dog show fanciers and dog lovers in Eastern Europe, other parts of Europe, Asia, the United Sates and all over Canada have come forward to support these dogs in their recovery.

“Everyone at the Ontario SPCA would like to extend a huge thank you to the many groups around the world that have supported and helped share the message about these beautiful Italian Greyhounds,” said Marc Ralsky, Director of Community and Donor Development. “We encourage everyone to register for the walk-a-thon and help us make it possible to help more animals in the future.”

To register for this weekend’s the Ontario SPCA Friends For Life! walk-a-thon™, please visit www.friendsforlifewalk.ca.

The Ontario SPCA depends almost entirely on the generosity of donations from the general public – your compassion enables us to provide urgently needed care and shelter for the thousands of innocent animals that suffer from injury, abuse or neglect each year in across this province.

In addition to supporting the Italian Greyhounds’ walk-a-thon pages, there are many ways to donate on our website at www.ontariospca.ca. In addition, we invite you to call our donor services hotline and speak to one of our donor service team members at 1-888-668-7722 ext. 321 who will be happy to accept your donation and answer any of your giving questions.
