NEWMARKET, ON (February 19, 2014) – This month, the Ontario SPCA Newmarket Spay/Neuter Clinic is celebrating an exciting milestone - its five year anniversary.

Since the clinic opened in 2009, it’s performed 25,474 spays and neuters on dogs and cats! That’s a huge contribution to helping manage the pet overpopulation crisis in Ontario.

And more exciting news...

In 2012, the Ontario SPCA Barrie Branch saw their shelter intake of cats reduced by 40%. Across the province, Ontario SPCA Branches have seen cat intakes reduced by 18%.

“What these statistics show is that having your pet spayed or neutered directly helps address the pet overpopulation crisis,” says Judith Aubin, Regional Manager of Ontario SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinics.

The Ontario SPCA Barrie Spay/Neuter Clinic has surpassed 20,000 spay and neuters and has completed 20,178 surgeries since opening in 2009. The Lincoln County Spay/Neuter Clinic has completed 4,596 surgeries since opening in 2012. Combined, Ontario SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinics have performed a total of 50,248 surgeries!

The Ontario SPCA would like thank all the dedicated and hard-working staff and all the responsible pet owners who made the decision to have their pets spayed and neutered. Here's to another 50,000 surgeries!

There is currently a reduced wait time at the Newmarket Spay/Neuter Clinic. To register for the waiting list, please visit or call 905-898-6112.
