Pet Food Donation from Royal Canin Helps Feed Animals in Remote Communities in Northern Ontario
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - NEWMARKET, ON (October 21, 2014) – In May of 2014, the Ontario SPCA was given a generous donation of dry dog and cat food from the pet food company Royal Canin to feed animals in Northern Ontario Communities. The food was destined for Kasheshawan, Ontario.
On May 21, 2014, the truck being used for the food transport was loaded with 13 skids of pet food. Back at an Ontario SPCA Branch, staff helped organize the food for its final journey.
On May 22, 2014, the food left the Branch and arrived at an airport in Sudbury where the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry was on hand to fly the food to its destination.
Once there, with help from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry staff, five skids of pet food were unloaded. This consisted of 2,640 lbs of dry dog food and 360 lbs of dry cat food.
Due to weather conditions, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry flight could not leave its hangar in Timmins, Ontario to pick up the food. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry staff generously offered to secure the food for the night in one of their hangars.
The following day, the plane destined for Kasheshawan arrived at the airport in Sudbury where it continued on its journey helping animals in remote communities in Northern Ontario.
“Natural disasters tragically devastate families, including the beloved pets that are also members of those families. We’re very happy we could help give these families one less thing to worry about by providing some food for their pets in their time of need. We wish everyone affected all the best as they rebuild.” Gregory Watine, CEO Royal Canin Canada “We are so grateful to our wonderful community supporter Royal Canin for this donation of pet food and to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry for their help in transporting it,” says Clancy Martin, Regional Inspector at the Ontario SPCA. “It will make a huge impact in the lives of many animals in our Northern Ontario Communities”
