A variety of animals have served in wartime. Mules carried artillery, horses transported troops and hauled field guns, pigeons delivered crucial messages and dogs served as messengers, medical assistants, bomb detectors and search and rescue workers.
To honour the wartime contributions of Canada’s veterans and the animals who stood bravely by their side, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society launched its first Animals in War commemorative pin in 2017.
The Animals in War pin is designed to be worn alongside your poppy to remember our veterans and the animals who bravely served by their side.
Pins are available for $12 each, with $2.50 from every pin sold being donated to Royal Canadian Legion branches in Ontario to support local veterans.
