It’s already 2024 – can you believe it?!—and we are living in an increasingly digital world where anyone can become Instagram-famous. But this isn’t just limited to humans – even your furry friend can become an “influencer.” In fact, some animals are just as famous as some celebrities! So, if you’re looking to add some cuteness to your feed this year, we’ve got you covered. We’ve compiled a list of four dog Instagram accounts from Ontario to check out! Animals are my outlet. I quickly realized, in a world where choices define destiny, a peculiar truth – animals chose me, not I them. From the loyal eyes of a Great Dane named Demi, then Henry, to the tiny but mighty presence of Felix, the invisible thread of connection wove a tapestry of companionship. A bond transcending the ordinary, I discovered a natural talent for animal communication. The silent conversations with Demi became a testament to a gift that blessed their connection with understanding beyond words.
Now over to Henry. I welcomed Henry into our life—a two-year-old Dane on the brink of euthanasia due to misunderstood aggression. Through patience and proper training, Henry transformed into a gentle giant, proving that sometimes all a dog needs is a second chance. Then came Felix, aka Fitz —The Foster Fail Miracle. In the tapestry of life, the threads of joy and loss are interwoven. Felix, a tiny but mighty force, entered our life just as Demi departed. What began as a fostering endeavor transformed into a lifelong commitment, as Felix became a cherished member of the family.
As Henry and Felix stand by, silent witnesses to this extraordinary life, I continue to navigate the delicate balance between protector and friend, leaving paw prints on both the streets and the heart.

Stella and Fate are both rescue dogs. Stella was surrendered to a local vet clinic after being run over by a car. Her previous owners were unable to look after her. A friend of mine reached out to me to ask if I would help. Stella had sustained some serious injuries and took about 9 months to fully recover from her physical injuries.
Fate is a rescue from Iqaluit. She came down with a local rescue and had five fractured toes. When we adopted her, she had a cast and had to do canine rehab to recover from the injuries sustained. My favourite thing about animals is how they live in the moment and are so resilient despite all the terrible things they endure. They’re the epitome of unconditional love. I started their Instagram page for fun and have connected with the most incredible community of like-minded pet parents.

This is Pinto! He is a 6-year-old Podenco Ibicenco living in Ottawa, Ontario. While he has a pretty awesome life now, it didn’t start off that way. Likely having been bred for racing in Spain, he was dumped on the street and picked up by a pound in 2018. He was rescued by Galgos Del Sol in Spain from the kill shelter in Valencia the day he was going to be euthanized. Once he was flown to Ottawa, he was adopted by a family here, but it didn’t work out. He was a handful. We were asked by Ottawa Dog Rescue to help by fostering Pinto as he was coming back into their care and they had no available foster homes left at the time. We picked him up shortly after and it was safe to say he was staying with us forever!
I have always been an animal lover and I work with animals on a daily basis. I created this dog Instagram to spare the followers on my personal page of all the dog spam, but I am so happy I did. Through the dog Instagram community, I have met some of the most amazing people, made lifelong friends for myself and Pinto, connected with wonderful local small businesses and have a really great support system for all things dog. All in all, my first dog has been pretty amazing and I wouldn’t trade him in for anything!

Being with animals is the best part of our day. They are always so happy, welcoming and forgiving. They share in our happiness, and they bring comfort at difficult times. We can really learn from them. We live on a large property with a Bethlehem of animals, including two large dogs, one cat, several chickens, and honeybees. Our family always had dogs and cats of different breeds and sources, including the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. In fact, one of our current dogs is a rescue. We adopted Diesel, a former hunting Bluetick Coonhound, in 2018. Diesel had his share of issues, from having to adjust to living in a house, to resource-guarding food, toys, and even sleeping locations. After much patience and love, and with the advice of a trainer, he is today a very loving, well-adjusted 8-year-old pup. At the beginning of 2020, we welcomed Odin, a Great Dane.
Being home during the pandemic, I started an Instagram account to record Odin and Diesel’s lives and to showcase my photography. It’s fun to post the best memories with our pets, to exchange daily with like-minded friends, and to constantly learn about best food, training and small pet-oriented businesses. The journey so far has been amusing and rewarding. I look forward to more adventures this year!
