Save the date for a pawsitively fun event with the Humane Society of Durham Region

Whitby, ON (June 3, 2024) – The Humane Society of Durham Region is inviting the public to an open house event on Saturday, June 8 to celebrate furry friends big and small and learn more about the charity.
Drop by the animal centre, located at 1505 Wentworth St. in Whitby, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a tour of the animal centre, meet animals available for adoption and enjoy a day of fun. There will be food vendors, carnival games, pet related vendors, a bake sale, yard sale, and kids’ zone with face painting. There will also be a nail trimming station for cats, dogs and small animals.
The Humane Society of Durham Region is a registered charity that has provided support for pets and their families in the Durham Region for over 30 years. HSDR is dedicated to protecting and providing compassionate care for unwanted and abused animals in Durham Region until they find their forever homes. Committed to improving the lives of animals, HSDR provides education and resources to the community. As part of the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, HSDR works collaboratively to strengthen and grow the programs and community support services it provides to help animals and the families who love them.
“We are excited to welcome the community to our open house event for a day of fun,” says Shannon Stephenson, Manager, Humane Society of Durham Region. “Our centre helps hundreds of animals find loving homes each year, and we deliver so many essential programs and services to keep pets with their families. This is an opportunity to drop by, learn more about how we support animals in our community and have some fun!”

In August 2022, the HSDR formally joined the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society to combine the organizations. This will enable the HSDR to strengthen and grow the programs and community support services it provides to help animals and the families who love them.
The Humane Society of Durham Region acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, which is covered under the Williams Treaties. The HSDR is situated on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, which includes Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi.
