Our Purpose

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity that has been operating for over 150 years. The Society provides care, comfort and compassion to animals in need in communities across Ontario. We value all animals and advocate to treat them with respect and kindness. Where is the Orillia and District Animal Centre located?

The animal centre is located at 467 West Street North, just off Highway 11. 

What are your hours?

The Orillia and District Animal Centre is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Please note that we are closed to the public on statutory holidays.

How can I become a foster parent?

As a foster volunteer with the Ontario SPCA, you’ll help young, sick, injured, or under-socialized animals who aren’t yet ready for adoption. With your love and care, you can help them heal, grow, and prepare for life in a forever home.

We are here to support individuals and families who need to rehome their companion animals.

How does the adoption process work?  

Adopters are welcome to visit the animal centre seven days a week between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. We encourage visitors to arrive 30-45 minutes before closing time to ensure that we can send you home with a new furry friend on the same day if you meet the perfect match.

Do I need an appointment to visit the animals?

Appointments are not necessary to see the adoptable animals in our care. Adopters are welcome to visit the animal centre seven days a week between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Please arrive 30-45 minutes before closing time to ensure ample time to meet the animals – and maybe even go home with a new furry friend if we have your perfect match!

Do you accept strays?

If you find a stray animal, please first contact the municipality’s animal control services for assistance. If there are no animal control services in place in the area where the animal was found, please reach out to our animal centre. When space allows, we accept stray animals from areas without municipal coverage. If we are at capacity, we will do our best to connect you with alternative resources.

How can I report animal cruelty? 

The Ontario SPCA does not have the legal authority to investigate concerns for the welfare of an animal. If you see an animal in distress, please contact the Government of Ontario’s Provincial Animal Welfare Services team at 1-833-9ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625) or your local police services. If the animal’s life is in danger, call 911 immediately as this is an emergency.

What items do you accept as donations? 

As a registered charity that is 100% donor-funded, we rely on the generosity of our supporters. We gratefully accept monetary donations, which can be made in person at our animal centre or online. If you’d like to donate supplies, check out our Amazon wish list for an easy way to give. We also post urgent needs on Facebook and Instagram — and as a bonus, you’ll get your daily dose of adorable animal content!
