Dog Enrichment: DIY Cereal box kibble dispenser

by | Interesting |

Empty cereal boxes can act as great dog enrichment tools when turned into kibble-dispensing devices. They can also provide the ripping and tearing that some dogs enjoy.

Without enrichment, heavy chewers can get frustrated and chew things they shouldn’t. As a result, they can swallow parts of objects that are left in their kennels. Some of these items can include bedding, food and water bowls, the kennel door, and toys. These behaviours can lead to dangerous intestinal blockages and expensive trips to the vet. Providing your dog with enrichment when they are being left alone is a great solution for destructive chewing.

When providing enrichment materials be sure that the materials are inert and can safely pass through the dog’s digestive tract. This is particularly important for dogs that tend to consume inedible items. In addition, be sure that the dog cannot physically harm himself on sharp edges or damage his teeth on objects that are too hard.

As shown in the video below it is easy to create a fun new enrichment toy for your dog with basic household items.
