IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kingston, ON (Sept. 9, 2022) – The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society’s 38-foot SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services unit has arrived in Kingston to host a two-day spay/neuter clinic for cats from underserved pet families to help reduce pet overpopulation.
The SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services unit will be providing spay/neuter surgeries at Centre 70 Arena, located at 100 Days Rd. in Kingston, from Sept. 9-10. A total of 50 surgeries are booked for the two-day mobile clinic, made possible thanks to the City of Kingston, which is sponsoring the event.
This will be the Ontario SPCA’s eighth mobile spay/neuter event of 2022. To date this year, over 350 spay/neuter surgeries have been performed during these community outreach events, preventing more than an estimated 13,000 unplanned offspring.
“We are excited to be in Kingston to offer the community this important service,” says Kristy White, Interim Manager, Ontario SPCA Lennox & Addington Animal Centre. “Thank you to the City of Kingston for sponsoring the clinic and ensuring this essential spay/neuter service is accessible to help reduce pet overpopulation.”
Thanks to a Pet Valu “Companions for Change™” grant of $175,000, the Ontario SPCA launched its SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services Unit in 2019, delivering wellness examinations and spay/neuter services to underserved communities. With the help of generous donations from devoted pet lovers across the country, since 2018, Pet Valu’s “Companions for Change” grants have helped animal rescues and charities across Canada achieve larger capital projects. In addition to “Companions for Change” grants, each year, Pet Valu hosts June Pet Appreciation Month and October “Companions for Change” events, which sees all stores raising funds, collecting product donations and hosting National Adoption Weekends to support hundreds of local community rescues.
