Adoption update: Angel has taught her family to count their blessings

by | Happy Tails |

It’s been 12 years since Angel adopted her family and changed their lives forever. Lily, her six-year-old human sister, put together a story (with the help of her mom) to showcase just how loved this sweet doggy is.

We hope you enjoy this update from Angel’s adopters, Adrienne and her daughter Lily:

Angel’s story

Angel is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever mix. She was adopted through the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre in September 2007 when she was a year old.

Angel adapted easily to life in the country and quickly made herself at home. She has always been a very active dog, and loves being around the water.

And of course, she loves going on endless walks!

Angel also enjoys her downtime and is the queen of napping in style!

In January 2013, Angel had an intestinal blockage that required emergency surgery, but she bounced back quickly.

A new best friend

Another big change came in 2013 with the birth of Lily. Angel had always been unsure of kids, but once she realized that kids = food, she has never looked back!

Now Lily and Angel are inseparable.

Sadly, in 2018 Angel was diagnosed with cancer – and the spindle cell tumour was growing rapidly. The tumour was surgically removed, but due to the nature of the cancer, Angel’s veterinarian expected the cancer to return quickly. Fortunately, it has been two years and Angel remains cancer free!

The experience has taught us to never take anything for granted and to enjoy every day to fullest with those we love. Angel is a vital part of our little family and we make a point to include her in all of our activities.

Angel is now 13 years old and is still very much an active dog who loves enjoying the outdoors and attention from her humans.

Animals will always be near and dear to our hearts.  We can’t say enough positive things about the amazing work done by the Ontario SPCA and we can’t thank them enough for bringing Angel into our lives.
