Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre will go to the dogs after renovations

Pembroke, ON (January 11, 2021) – The Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre is excited to announce that it is undergoing renovations to create a space specifically for dogs, allowing the centre to expand its services in the community.

The Renfrew County Animal Centre moved to its current location at 115 Woodcrest Dr. in Pembroke in September 2017 after the lease expired at its previous location in Petawawa. Without an area specifically for dog adoption, the centre previously transferred dogs that came into its care to other Ontario SPCA animal centres for adoption.

“After careful planning and consideration of the future needs of our centre, and our community, we are ready to move forward with renovations,” says Tracy McElman, Provincial Manager, Community Programming & Animal Centre Services, Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.

Construction is underway and will continue throughout the winter months. Animals will be transferred to other Ontario SPCA animal centres in Eastern Ontario during this renovation period. Municipal pound services will continue to be offered at the Renfrew County Animal Centre to minimize the impact on the community.

“We would like to thank our donors, volunteers and staff for their continued support and patience,” says McElman. “We look forward to unveiling a new facility in 2021 that will change the lives of even more animals in Renfrew County.”
