The Volunteer Factor: Matt
by Ontario SPCA and Humane Society | Campaigns | April 10, 2019
Volunteers are a HUGE part of helping the animals in our care everyday. We are so thankful for all of the roles they fill and how they love our animals as they wait for forever homes!
As part of National Volunteer Week, we’re excited to highlight one of our amazing volunteers – Matt!
Matt has been volunteering at the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education and Animal Centre in Stouffville, since September 2017. Through a community partnership with March of Dimes, Matt volunteers weekly on Wednesday afternoons. He helps with laundry, sometimes dishes, and always enrichment/socialization.
The people that work with Matt say they feel that this volunteer placement has given him a huge sense of accomplishment and independence. He has developed his own routine and knows exactly what he needs to do when he comes to the animal centre, which has really developed his confidence.
Some of Matt’s hobbies include gardening and computer gaming. Although he does not have any pets at home currently, he has a sincere love for animals. Matt often advocates for the animals at the centre and occasionally promotes ones available for adoption. He has posted YouTube videos of his volunteer time with cats and has even brought in his family members to meet some of the pets he has built a bond with.
Help us celebrate Matt and the rest of our amazing volunteers. LIKE his video on YouTube and leave him an encouraging comment!
Happy National Volunteer Week!
