Veterinary Technician – Pembroke

Veterinary Technician: We are seeking a Veterinary Technician with a passion for shelter medicine to assist in animal care within a busy spay and neuter clinic environment. This position, both challenging and rewarding, is suitable for those who are working toward achieving their RVT accreditation. You will assist the RVT with pre, active and post intake care through low stress and fear free techniques as well as prepare medications, support enrichment and conduct general husbandry duties.

Volunteer Coordinator – Stouffville

Opportunity 

Position: We are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator at our York Region Animal Centre responsible for building a vibrant team of engaged volunteers that support animal care, adoptions, fostering and general shelter operations. Reporting to the York Animal Centre Manager and coordinating with our Volunteer Managers, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and operation of the Markham Animal Adoption and Education Centre (MAAEC) Satellite Adoption Program as well as the coordination of the York Animal Centre Volunteer and Foster Program. This position is responsible for the coordination and delivery of monthly satellite adoption events, training a team of adoption volunteers, and reporting on process and outcomes of volunteer onboarding and adoption initiatives.  

Status: Full-time, Permanent  

Location: Onsite, Provincial Office in Stouffville, Ontario 

A Typical Day 

Adoption Events 

  • Coordinate monthly satellite adoption events ensuring adoptable pets are available and ready for the event 
  • Work with volunteer managers to determine recruitment needs and train a team of 20-25 animal care and adoption volunteers to run adoption events at our MAAEC location  
  • Work with community outreach to promote and be present onsite for adoption events to supervise activities 

Volunteer Coordination 

  • Working with the Ontario SPCA Volunteer Managers and York Centre Manager, build a thriving team of 150 animal centre volunteers that report to Animal Centre staff in the York Animal Centre 
  • Coordinate volunteer schedules, onboarding, training, and cohesion within the teams 

Volunteer Management 

  • Coordinate the centre volunteer program including, training, scheduling and communications 
  • Prepares volunteer and co-op placement schedules in accordance with Centre needs.   
  • Ensures volunteer hours are recorded in the volunteer platform and maintains Better Impact Platform and keeps all documentation up to date, in coordination with the Volunteer Manager.

Accounting Clerk – Reporting to the Controller, Finance, the Accounting Clerk position performs general accounting duties and provides support to the month-end, year-end, and budgeting processes

  • Process month-end journal entries regarding insurance, deferred revenue, clearing accounts and other entries as required

  • Co-ordinate credit card expense tracking with all departments, (ensuring all transactions are supported with documentation and coded appropriately) 
  • Co-ordinate Petty Cash Agreements with Provincial Operating Managers and ensure regular reconciliations have been completed in a timely manner

Position: We are searching for Animal Behaviour Coordinator (ABC), to assess and deliver on the environmental and behavioural health needs of all animals in the care of the Ontario SPCA. A Typical Day

· Advises the public in a variety of ways, including responding to general inquiries, adoption counselling, retention counselling, relinquishment counselling, and general animal care questions

About the Role: 

Reporting to the Clinic Manager, with a dotted line to the Chief Veterinary Officer, our Sudbury Veterinarian will be vital in supporting animal welfare through spay/neutersurgery while contributing to a meaningful cause by expanding access to veterinary care in Northern communities. This is a region where basic veterinary services, like spay/neuter procedures, are not always available, and animal overpopulation can be a pressing concern. Duties may include shelter medicine for Ontario SPCA animals, such as preventative basic veterinary services, surgical procedures, and dental services. You’ll work alongside a compassionate and dedicated team of professionals, and your expertise will directly benefit the animals and communities in need.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Provide quality medical, surgical and dental care for animals while ensuring compliance with legal requirements (CVO guidelines, Veterinarians Act) 
  • Make appropriate and resource-effective decision-making while practicing evidence-based medicine 
  • Handle animals properly, gently and compassionately using Fear Free practices; always conscious of their safety/comfort; genuine care displayed in handling the animals 
  • Perform spay/neuter surgeries on cats and dogs  
  • Provide excellent care for animals before, during, and after surgery 
  • Support Shelter Medicine medical direction for the animals in the Ontario SPCA Sudbury Animal Centre 
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars and in-service training to further personal education, skills and training 
  • Ensure all animal health situations follow Ontario SPCA medical protocols and policies 
  • Work closely with clinic medical team to ensure the health and safety of all animals 
  • Embrace a culture of teaching and education; participate in coaching and mentoring of staff, students and veterinary mentees 
  • Be available when needed for issues or problems related to job duties and responsibilities including on-call hours (in a limited capacity) 

Qualifications: 

  • DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) with the ability to practice in Ontario 
  • Experience in HQHVSN is an asset 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Passion for animal welfare and making a difference in the community 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

  • Examining animals pre and post-op and provide recommendations for follow-up care 
  • Supervise the handling and recording of controlled substances by veterinary technicians 
  • Ensuring that equipment, medications, and medical supplies are available and stored in a safe and appropriate manner, including safe disposal of narcotics 
  • Ordering and dispenses medical supplies  
  • Ensuring Ontario SPCA policies and procedures related to infection control are followed 
  • Actively support clinic staff and volunteers, and promote the development of skills related to the advancement of our goals and mission 
  • Direct the work and provide feedback to RVT’s, VT’s and VA’s in the clinic
