Celebrating our RVTs: Spotlight on Maureen
by Ontario SPCA and Humane Society | Interesting | October 11, 2018
This month is RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) month across Canada, and we want to celebrate our amazing RVTs! This is Maureen’s story, that led her to the Ontario SPCA. For more information on what an RVT does for shelter medicine, click here!
RVT Maureen’s story
Maureen joined the team at the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre in April of 2017. A graduate of the Veterinary Technology Program at St. Lawrence College in 1999, she received her designation as a Registered Veterinary Technician that same year. During her career in veterinary medicine Maureen has worked at a wide variety of small animal companion, mixed large animal, and avian/exotic zoo medicine practices. Maureen enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for veterinary medicine by lecturing at conferences designed for veterinary students and animal health professionals; and she also regularly facilitates avian and reptile medicine workshops.
Being a strong advocate for animal welfare, it was a natural progression for Maureen to move into the field of shelter medicine. Maureen is grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of animals that come into the shelter, and to help them find their “fur-ever families”. Maureen feels very lucky to be working with such a caring and dedicated team at the Barrie Animal Centre.
