Over 40 families come together to change the lives of animals in need at the Ontario SPCA
Napanee, ON (August. 18, 2020) – Since introducing limited contact adoptions last month, the Ontario SPCA Lennox & Addington Animal Centre in Napanee has found loving homes for 43 animals who are now settling into life with their new families. The Ontario SPCA wants to thank the families that showed their support for the animals in our community by adopting these furry friends.
Among the animals who have been adopted is a cat named Drake, who survived a house fire and could no longer be cared for by his displaced family. Six rabbits also came into the care of the Lennox & Addington Animal Centre to be re-homed when their owner had to undergo cancer treatment and sadly could no longer look after them.
While the Ontario SPCA’s doors remain temporarily closed to help slow and stop the spread of COVID-19, staff at the Lennox & Addington Animal Centre have been busy working to deliver services throughout the pandemic.
“We are offering all of our services and have expanded some of them to meet the needs including a new Urgent Animal Care Fund and limited contact adoptions,” says Esther McCutcheon, Manager, Ontario SPCA Lennox & Addington Animal Centre.
The Urgent Animal Care Fund helps animals in our communities should their families face financial hardship, become ill, or if they can’t access critical supplies and resources like food or veterinary care. Over 200,000 lbs of food has been distributed across the province through the fund, including to food banks, rescues and pet families in Napanee.
Appointments can also be made through the Lennox & Addington Animal Centre to discuss options surrounding re-homing.
“The best place for animals is at home with their families and we will do everything possible to keep them together in these challenging times,” says McCutcheon. “If that’s not possible, we will continue to work with families to help them re-home their animals.”
