Coronavirus and your pets
by Ontario SPCA and Humane Society | Interesting | March 9, 2020

As with all zoonotic illnesses, we are wise to employ certain strategies in the case of COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2.
At this time the risk for Ontarians is low.
Also, at this time there is no evidence to support that our companion animals, particularly dogs and cats, can develop the disease or transmit the disease to humans or other animals.
However, wise precautions can limit the opportunity for the virus to be transmitted person to person, as well as to develop the ability to infect our companion animals.
Knowing that this is a rapidly evolving situation, the best prevention is to follow strategies that are indicated for any infectious respiratory disease.
