The Provincial Dog Rehab Centre moves closer to completion
The Ontario SPCA Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre is beginning to resemble the world-class facility it will be when it opens later this year!
Much has happened at the site in Peterborough. The interior and exterior details are starting to take shape! The masonry work is complete inside and is currently being painted, and epoxy flooring is being applied. Standing inside the main entrance of the 24,000 square foot facility and looking up at the vaulted ceilings, you can imagine animals coming and going from the sun-filled lobby.
HVAC, plumbing, electrical and sprinklers are currently being installed, windows and doors are going in, and siding is beginning to clad the exterior of the building. Planning is also underway on the final grading that will shape the landscaping around the property.
Partnering for animal well-being
The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is excited to be partnering with the Peterborough Humane Society to build this new complex that will advance animal well-being both locally and across Canada. Sitting on 20 acres, the unique space will bring together three facilities under one roof at 1999 Technology Dr. in Peterborough. The Peterborough Animal Care Centre will be home to the Peterborough Humane Society’s Adoption & Education Centre, a publicly accessible Spay/Neuter Clinic and the Ontario SPCA Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre.
Custom built for dogs who need extra support
The Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre will be custom built to help dogs who need more support and individualized care than an animal centre can provide. It will contain a number of unique features, including a real family living room to help dogs practice living in a house to prepare them for the day they are ready to find a loving family and a place to call home. For some dogs, the mock living room may be the first time they’ve ever been inside a house.
Dogs like Nikita, Bandit, Scout, and Rex, who need extra support before they are ready to find a loving home, will get their second chance at the Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre.
